Privacy Policy
At Online Barcode Scan, we prioritize your privacy. This policy outlines how we handle data and why our "local-first" approach is different from traditional online tools.
1. Local Browser Processing
All barcode image processing and camera decoding happens locally in your web browser. When you select an image or use your camera, the data is processed by our client-side engine (WebAssembly). We do not upload your images or camera frames to our servers.
2. No Transmission of Scan Results
The decoded values from your barcodes are never transmitted to our servers or third-party analytics services. The data extracted from the barcode remains entirely within your browser session.
3. Scan History
If you enable the scan history feature, the results are stored only in your browser's localStorage. This data is not synchronized with any account or server. You can clear your history at any time using the "Clear History" button within the tool or by clearing your browser cache.
4. Analytics and Server Logs
We currently use no analytics services to track individual visitor behavior. Our hosting provider (Cloudflare) may collect standard server request logs (IP address, browser user-agent, and requested URL) for security, rate limiting, and performance optimization. These logs do not contain any information from the barcodes you scan.
5. Cookies
We do not use tracking or advertising cookies. Small pieces of data may be stored in your browser's local storage solely to support the functionality of the tools (e.g., storing your scan history).
6. Data Retention
Since we do not collect or store your scan data on our servers, we have no retention period for that data. Any data stored locally in your browser remains there until you choose to delete it.
7. Contact
