Terms of Use

1. Service scope

The site provides browser-based barcode scanning, decoding, QR interpretation, number validation, barcode generation, local history, batch organization, CSV export, format comparisons, and educational guides. The service does not assign, register, license, certify, or authenticate barcode numbers, products, companies, shipments, books, or destinations.

2. Results can be incomplete or incorrect

Results depend on image quality, camera hardware, permissions, browser behavior, print quality, supported symbology, decoder behavior, user input, and software operation. A scan may fail, identify the wrong visible symbol, or return text that is misleading when interpreted outside its original context.

Verify information that affects inventory, sales, purchasing, shipping, safety, compliance, access, identity, finance, or any other important decision through the appropriate issuing organization, trusted database, source document, or receiving system.

3. Check digits and decoded values

A successful decode confirms only that the decoder extracted a value from an image. A valid check digit confirms only that a supported number satisfies the relevant mathematical rule. Neither result proves assignment, registration, ownership, product existence, price, origin, safety, destination trustworthiness, or authenticity.

4. Generated barcodes

The generator renders symbols from data you provide. Generation does not register a number or confirm that you are entitled to use it. You are responsible for the data, identifier rights, required symbology, dimensions, quiet zones, print process, verification level, destination-system rules, and any registration or licensing required for your use.

Test generated output with the actual printers, materials, scanners, software, and workflow that will consume it before production use.

5. QR content and external destinations

Barcodes can contain harmful, deceptive, or unwanted content. Supported QR actions require user confirmation, but confirmation does not make a website, email address, telephone number, message, contact, or network trustworthy. You are responsible for reviewing decoded content and deciding whether to continue.

External services are governed by their own terms, privacy practices, availability, and security. Online Barcode Scan does not control them.

6. Acceptable use

You must not use the site to:

• Violate applicable law or the rights of another person or organization.
• Create or distribute deceptive labels, fraudulent identifiers, malicious QR destinations, or content intended to impersonate another party.
• Interfere with the service, bypass security controls, overload infrastructure, or attempt unauthorized access.
• Upload or share information that you are not authorized to process or disclose.
• Use automated activity in a way that materially disrupts availability for other visitors.

7. Availability and changes

The site, tools, supported formats, limits, content, and availability may change, be suspended, or be discontinued. Maintenance, browser changes, dependency changes, provider incidents, security events, or technical failures can interrupt access. No specific uptime, response time, feature permanence, or support level is promised.

8. No warranties

The service is provided on an “as available” and “as is” basis. To the extent permitted by applicable law, no warranty is made that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, compatible with every device or barcode, secure against every threat, or suitable for a particular purpose.

9. Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by applicable law, the operator of Online Barcode Scan is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or business losses arising from use of, inability to use, or reliance on the service. This includes losses related to incorrect scans, generated labels, inventory, pricing, purchases, shipping, external links, deleted browser storage, or unavailable tools.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits a right or liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.

10. Independent service and trademarks

Online Barcode Scan is independent and is not an official service of GS1 or any barcode, scanner, retail, logistics, browser, marketplace, or platform vendor mentioned on the site. Third-party names and marks belong to their respective owners and are used only for identification or explanatory context.

11. Changes to these terms

These terms may be updated when the service, risks, business model, or applicable requirements change. Continued use after revised terms are published means the revised terms apply to later use of the service, subject to applicable law.
